Sewing Projects

Hello folks,

the first sewing project I´m sharing here is not the first that I made by now, but the first I´m able to document.
Recently I have been much into the 18th century but before I can try myself on a complete gown (which is still a bit terrifying) I need to sew my undergarments.

"Lucy Locket lost her pocket,
Kitty Fisher found it,
not a penny was there in it,
only ribbon round it."
Pockets are something very practically and very important for a proper 18th century outfit and they are quite easy to make.
They have been worn under the robe but over the petticoat and were tied around the waist.
For my first pair of pockets I used a pattern from Janet Arnolds Patterns of Fashion 1: 1660-1860.

Here you can see the size I figured out: It´s made from a typic A4 squared  piece of paper so you just have to count.

The pockets made in the 18th century have been very creative with the design and so can you!
Many of them might have been embroidered or out of printed fabrics but it was also not uncommon to use fabrics from old clothes or even more than one fabric by quilting it with fabric pieces.

For myself I chose a white cotton so I could embroider it. After all I have to admit that my cotton is a bit thin so next time I would defenitely choose a thicker material! They are still not finished yet, because I have to work on another project first. But as soon as I finish them I will post them!

So thats it for today! :)
